Cleaning company shines

A LOCAL cleaning firm is defying the credit crunch after reporting a 20% rise in turnover.

Stokesley-based Squeeky Clean Ltd plans to open two new offices - the first in Stockton - boost revenues of £400,000 by 10% and create up to 10 jobs in the next year.

The company said more consumers were finding someone else to do their household chores and few of them could sew. The company employs 35 staff and specialises in domestic and commercial services including laundry washing, ironing, clothing alterations and leather suite cleaning.

Co-founder Wayne Merryweather said there was a national shortages of seamstresses: “We are seeking funding to train our seamstresses so they can pass on the benefit of their knowledge before they retire. We will have a big problem if this cannot be done,” she said.

Mr Merryweather and business partner Richard Brown founded the company in 2004. The pair met while working on drug and alcohol abuse projects on behalf of a local housing association.
