Tees backs PM’s speech
KEY Tees business organisations welcomed Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s speech to the CBI last night, in which he announced the go ahead for the North-east wind farm project as part of a vision to free Britain from the “dictatorship of oil”.
Joanne Fryett, North East Chamber of Commerce policy manager for the Tees Valley said the PM’s “cautious optimism” for the future of the economy was not misplaced. But she called for a “belt and braces” approach to help businesses over the next few months. Simon Hanson, policy manager for the North-east with the Federation of Small Businesses said it was what his members wanted to hear.
“They know there are economic problems but they have learned from the early Nineties and even foot and mouth.”
He said this week’s £10m package of measures to help businesses through the credit crunch from One NorthEast was particularly welcome.
