Mr Motivator’s advice on honing sales technique

MOTIVATIONAL speaker Matt Hudson will reveal how to brush up on sales technique when he speaks at the North East’s first major sales conference.

Hudson, who runs Newcastle-based management consultancy Simple NLP, helps to try and change the way sales people think to make them better at their job. He is one of the UK’s leading experts in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) which aims to improve communication skills.

The conference is being organised by The Journal in association with Newcastle-based training consultancy Weightman Associates and will be held at the Newcastle Gateshead Hilton on November 13.

Hudson says his one-hour address will teach sales people how to pick up on clues in conversation which help reveal how ready someone is to buy, and make the most of the situation.

He said: “Using language patterns is a new behavioural technique which can help identify the motivation of the other person and can match the key patterns they use, to create a rapport between the two parties. This allows the sales person to develop an approach that builds confidence and can influence a sale by using words that will motivate the customer.”

Other speakers at the conference include top UK sales guru Richard Denny, who is making a rare North East appearance. Denny is an entrepreneur, broadcaster and author of books including international best seller Selling to Win.

Hudson said Denny is one of his business heroes and he recalls how shortly after buying Denny’s book, he went out and made a £1,200 sale. Tony Weightman, founder of co-sponsor Weightman Associates, said: “Every company is looking to improve its sales in this economic environment and this is a fantastic opportunity to learn how to do that. We have got some of the best sales speakers in the business.” John Grant, training and development manager of Newcastle Building Society, will give advice on developing a company’s sales training programme and rolling out management development programmes.

Catherine Argent, who is part of the commercial litigation team at the North East’s biggest law firm Dickinson Dees, will explain how and when to make sales contracts, among other topics. The price per person is £175 + VAT to include full-day conference, morning coffee and pastries, three-course lunch and afternoon refreshments.
