Camerons beating the failing market
HARTLEPOOL-BASED Camerons is bucking the gloom in the pub trade and expanding its brewing capacity and tenanted estate.
It is installing eight new brewing vessels which will allow it to increase production to 800,000 barrels a year from 375,000.
Costing £4m, they will go into operation in November and help to support an agreement with Scottish and Newcastle, to see Camerons supply it with lager brands Kronenbourg and Foster’s and bitter John Smith’s to 2019.
The firm, which previously only brewed Kronenbourg for S&N, believes contract brewing sales will grow from £50m to £70m by next year and it is hoping to sign deals with other drinks companies as a result of its larger facilities.
It also intends to extend its tenanted pub estates, which have grown from 55 sites to 66 since the deal. But the firm was doubtful it would hit its target of 200 tenanted pubs by next year due to market conditions, and was focusing on acquisitions which offered additional facilities. It expects to have 80 sites next year.
