K Home in jobs drive after contracts win

KAREN McLAUCHLAN

THORNABY-BASED K Home International has begun a major recruitment drive for up to 100 staff on the back of winning a fistful of contracts.

Meanwhile, in Stockton, Aker Solutions has landed a £2.3m project to upgrade Growhow UK’s Billingham plant.

KHI’s search for new staff has been prompted by the winning of “several new contracts”, which a spokesman said would come on stream over the next two to three months and will contribute to 20-25% additional growth in the business.

The 100 jobs are on top of 40 posts created earlier this year when the firm secured three major contract wins in the Middle East.

“The current level of activity is making us as busy as we have ever been in the 35 years since we started trading,” said KHI’s chief executive Andy Home.

“While we have sufficient resources to cope with current levels of demand, projects due to commence in the near future will require us to expand our resources significantly, both in terms of people and facilities.”

KHI is now looking for staff across a range of engineering, project management and construction-related disciplines, the majority of which will be based on Teesside.

“While a significant volume of new work will come from UK-based customers, we are currently experiencing increasing demand from overseas customers, particularly those in the Middle East,” added Mr Home. “We are therefore looking for people to work at our headquarters on Teesside or in our facility located in Dubai.”

Meanwhile, GrowHow UK has awarded Aker Solutions a project to upgrade capacity and deliver significant environmental emissions improvements at its ammonium nitrate plant in Billingham. The contract, worth £2.3m to the Stockton engineering team, will see Aker Solutions provide project management, engineering, procurement and construction management services for the project. The environmental improvements will look to reduce effluent emissions of ammonia and ammonium nitrate at the site.

The project will significantly increase capacity at the site by 120,000 tonnes a year to 620,000 tonnes a year of fertiliser, of which there is a world-wide shortage.

Dave Ley, president of Aker Solutions E&C, said: “Aker Solutions has accumulated extensive experience working with GrowHow on previous successful projects, so we are looking forward to bringing our environmental experience to this facility. The global need for measures to limit emissions to the environment is a process of continuous improvement.”
