Garlands shrinking carbon footprints
HARTLEPOOL-BASED Garlands Call Centres has launched a new initiative to help employees reduce their carbon footprint.
The company, which employs more than 3,000 staff across Tees Valley, has laid down three carbon challenges which include reducing inter-site travel and offsite visits to clients and suppliers by 15%.
In addition, Garlands has instructed staff to switch off computer monitors when away from the desk and recycle more plastic bottles and paper. The company hopes to recycle 30 tonnes of plastic - reducing CO2 emissions by an estimated 48 tonnes per annum - and save more than 250 trees in 2008 through paper recycling.
Martyn Collins, Garlands’ environment manager, said: “On average, it’s estimated that an individual churns out 11 tonnes of CO2 every year per person, 19% of which is from car use. We’re encouraging our people to bear these figures in mind every time they step into their cars or put an item into the bin.”
