Time to tackle fuel poverty, says Fabrick

A GOVERNMENT report out today on price-setting by energy companies has fuelled calls for an energy summit on Teesside.

Fabrick Housing Group is urging the UK’s leading energy companies to do more to tackle the growing problem of fuel poverty - which impacts on one in 10 North-east households. It is calling on politicians, energy experts, consumers and suppliers to attend the Fair Fuel Summit, being held in Darlington on October 29.

Today Ofgem said electricity and gas firms should stop penalising consumers for paying by different methods under proposals outlined in findings from a seven-month inquiry. But the report found that while some consumers were missing out on the full benefits of competition, the market was working well for most.
