200 jobs to fill at student loans firm

HUNDREDS of jobs are up for grabs as Darlington's newest large-scale employer gears up for expansion.

The Student Loans Company (SLC) is looking to recruit 200 customer services advisors and student finance assessors.

The full and part-time posts are being offered as SLC gets ready to take over its new role in providing a fully integrated student finance service, known as Student Finance England.

The not-for-profit organisation moved to Lingfield Point from Mowden Hall earlier this year, creating an additional 200 jobs. It will see staff swell to more than 700 by May next year.

Its national headquarters remains in Glasgow and there is also a facility in Wales.

Students Loans Company assesses and issues loans and grants and then manages repayments. Student Finance England will initially be available for new students applying to enter higher education in the academic year 2009/10. The new service will transform the way student finance is delivered in England and be built around students’ needs.

For the first time, students will be able to apply for financial support at the same time as they apply for a university or college place.
