Oz firm boosted by Tees clinic
SPECTACULAR growth in day patient treatments at a Teesside clinic helped boost turnover for its Australian-owned parent company, which saw a 237% increase in NHS work over the past year.
Tees Valley Treatment Centre in Middlesbrough, which is contracted to provide up to 17 services, including general surgery and specialist treatments to all five local primary care trusts, has seen patient numbers double to 8,000.
Business development manager Sandra Moffat who worked for Britain’s fourth largest private hospital operator Capio Healthcare UK before it was bought by Australia’s Ramsay Health Care in July last year, said demand was driven by increased patient choice in the NHS and the success of “choose and book”, which gives patients control over where and when procedures are carried out.
Ramsay, which saw net profit after tax up 11.5% on turnover up 27.4%, said it planned to invest £28m over 2009/10 to improve facilities and increase operating capacity further in the UK.
On Teesside, permanent staff numbers have risen to about 30, helping it achieve a maximum three-week waiting period. It recently tried out Saturday surgeries, which Ms Moffat said had proved extremely popular with patients.
