New award to commend eco steps
ECO pioneers from the region’s manufacturing sector are invited to vie for a new award.
The Low Carbon Innovation Award has been launched by EEF, the industry body for manufacturers, and will be presented at its Delivering the Low Carbon Economy conference on November 26.
Among the delegates will be Middlesbrough-based Industrial Training Systems (ITS), which has developed software that measures companies’ energy use to pinpoint inefficiency. ITS, which employs around 50 staff at its Riverside Park offices, is hoping to grow its manufacturing client base, as more companies turn to energy-saving to cut costs and C0². A recent EEF survey showed manufacturers are implementing more sophisticated strategies to cut their emissions.
The award, in association with One NorthEast, will recognise the best low-carbon products or services and could help manufacturers break into new markets.
MD of ITS, Malcolm Knott, said: “RiTA educates and empowers employees to take the first steps towards an environmental improvement programme.”
EEF’s North-east manager, Tony Sarginson, said the move towards a low carbon economy, far from being a stumbling block, offered defined objectives for companies to innovate.
