Capacity increase is vote of confidence for airport

ONE of Durham Tees Valley Airport's most important scheduled services has been given a major boost.

KLM announced it is to significantly increase capacity on the Amsterdam route as part of its plan to expand its hub-based network, centring Schiphol.

The move to introduce larger aircraft on some of its flights comes just weeks after a senior company executive made clear its commitment to DTV.

From now through to March next year there will be more than 7,000 extra seats available.

The news was welcomed by airport marketing and communications manager, Emma Ormerod, who said it was especially good news for the local business community who represent well over half of the passengers using the KLM service. “I think the decision should be seen as a real vote of confidence, not just in the airport but in the local economy as a whole, especially those businesses in sectors such as petrochemicals and engineering who compete in a global market and need fast links to international air services,” she said.

On a recent visit to Durham Tees Valley, Christine Ourmieres, UK General Manager for Air France KLM, said the airline saw DTV as one of the regional airports pivotal to its growth plans.
