Open wide for dental nursing training

ONE OF the region’s leading training providers is rolling out a programme of dental nursing training in Newcastle after a trial period proved a success.

The North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC), one of the largest providers of vocational training in the North East, is extending its programme in Newcastle, beginning on December 15 at its office in the Stamp Exchange in Newcastle city centre.

NECC currently delivers dental nursing training to more than 140 people from its centres in Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Darlington and Northallerton, but this will be the first time it has introduced an ongoing programme at its Newcastle office.

Suzanne Slater, NECC regional manager for services, said: “NECC has a first-class reputation for the delivery of its dental nursing training, and extending the programme into Newcastle will be a great boost to Newcastle-based dental practices. Because of the success of NECC’s dental nursing training in other centres, people regularly travel to Sunderland from as far afield as Hexham and Cramlington, so being able to train in Newcastle in the future will save them considerable time and travel expenses.”

NECC’s dental nursing training is available to anyone aged 16 or over. Changes in legislation have made it a compulsory requirement for all dental nurses in the UK to have, or be working towards, a level three apprenticeship in dental nursing.

NECC provides apprenticeship training – vocational work-based training combined with theoretical study – in an extensive range of disciplines from engineering, construction design, social care and retail, to warehousing, business administration and much more.
