LINGERIE entrepreneur Michelle Mone was in the region last night, aiming to inspire more women to follow her lead into business.
The Ultimo tycoon, who left school with no qualifications, was speaking at the first Business Boutique event in Hebburn as part of Women’s Enterprise Day. The event, organised by South Tyneside Means Business, was part of the wider Enterprise Week which runs until Friday.
The Scottish businesswoman, who set up Ultimo 12 years ago, said: “It doesn’t matter where you are from. I left school at 15 without any qualifications. It’s about having a ‘can do’ attitude.
“It’s incredible when people come up to you and want your autograph. But if that encourages women, and gives them the confidence, that’s fantastic.
“A lot of girls want to be an entrepreneur, it’s quite a sexy role. My ambition has always been to be able to pay my own way in life, instead of having a man buy things for you.”
In addition to sharing the Ultimo story, Glasgow-born Ms Mone also gave her tips on juggling business and family life.
The mother and former model now runs seven brands as part of her MJM International business.
