Electronics firm secures jobs after winning £500k of work
A TEESSIDE electronics firm has won £500,000 worth of work which will help to secure 160 jobs in 2009.
Cleveland Circuits, part of the Cleveland Technologies Group, has started making thousands of printed circuit-boards (PCBs) for a major British manufacturer at its Skelton factory.
The customer, a leading manufacturer of power distribution equipment, picked the Teesside firm because of its quality, value and development capabilities.
Bosses at Cleveland Circuits said a main factor in the deal – one of the biggest contracts won by the 37-year-old firm – was the “bespoke” service offered.
Managing director Andrew Gleghorn said: “The collapse in the value of sterling has also led to an increase in business from companies who previously relied on overseas suppliers of printed circuit boards.
“Buying from the UK is not only more convenient and simpler, but now better value too.”
Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland MP Ashok Kumar was due to visit the Skelton factory today to see the new-style PCBs being made. He was also due to meet with directors and employees.
Mr Gleghorn said: “Cleveland Technologies, and Cleveland Circuits in particular, are testament to what can be achieved by a team of dedicated employees offering high levels of quality and service at competitive prices.
“While I am sure that the world-wide financial situation will get worse before it gets better, I believe that the continual diet of bad news we are being fed is not truly representative of the whole picture – there are firms out there doing well.”
