Dumped expertlaunches project
A GREEN project to nurture the Tees Valley’s emerging eco design sector will be launched next week.
Reality TV presenter and product designer, Rob Holdway, who presented the Channel 4 programme Dumped, will challenge the ‘throwaway culture’ with a keynote speech at the University of Teesside on Monday.
Mr Holdway, who is also director of award-winning low-carbon design company Giraffe Innovation, will help launch Sustees, a university-led forum for eco activity in the region.
Principal lecturer Paul Denison said: “As the credit crunch hits, and the whole legislative push for sustainability gathers pace, a good proportion of new jobs will be in the green sectors.
“Once the downturn is over, there will be a need to regenerate business.”
Dumped featured 11 volunteers who eeked out a living on a landfill site. Mr Holdaway will kickstart a four-day programme with a talk at the university’s Centuria Building. Contact c.e.wilson@tees.ac.uk
