MORE than 2,000 business people yesterday packed the launch of a big event which is hoped to find new customers for North East companies.
The North East Regional Business Fair welcomed buyers from 140 UK companies to Newcastle Racecourse to meet representatives of firms here.
The biggest event of its kind ever held in the region was organised by Business Link, and backed by nebusiness, to help companies grow even in the recession.
Alastair MacColl, chief executive of Business & Enterprise North East, which runs Business Link in the region, opened the event.
He said: “We have 140 buyers here over the next two days who really want to trade with North East companies and it is hugely encouraging to see that thousands of business people are heading to the event to take advantage of that.”
The fair continues today and as well as the Meet the Buyers event there will be seminars on the economic outlook, hosted by David Buffham of the Bank of England, and Tyne Tunnel – The Second Crossing, hosted by senior management from TT2 Ltd and Bouygues Travaux Publics.
It is not too late for business people to attend the fair, as they can register at Newcastle Racecourse on the day.
