No growing pains for Dewjo’c
NEW projects for Tees Valley eco architects Dewjo’c have prompted the company to increase its workforce by a third across its Sedgefield and Newcastle offices.
The company, which focuses on green developments and has worked on Middlesbrough’s Middlehaven, has taken on 16 new staff including ten on Teesside, boosting numbers to 45.
Projects for Darlington Memorial Hospital, NETpark at Sedgefield and Stockton Borough Council - including work on a £14m remodelling of the Billingham Forum - have added to the company’s success, with a turnover of £3.5m.
Director Steve Agar said the company was exercising a “cautious optimism” about its strong position amid the current climate.
“It’s an exciting time for Dewjo’c as we are experiencing a period of growth and expansion in an otherwise difficult economic climate. Luckily, our public sector work has continued where other firms working on private sector projects have been suffering.
“We have made sustainability one of our niche markets. Legislation is dictating how eco-friendly developments should be and it’s changing all the time. There are now very stringent standards for environmentally-friendly buildings,” added Mr Agar.
Also specialising in the field of pharmaceuticals, the company which was founded in Middlesbrough in 1900 is an expert in the design of sterile environments and has undertaken work for global pharmaceutical giants around the world including Poland, Egypt and China.
