Whessoe clinches contract in India
DARLINGTON-BASED oil and gas company Whessoe has secured a multi-million dollar energy contract in India.
The firm will provide project manage- ment consultancy services for an LNG (liquefied natural gas) receiving terminal at Kochi in the state of Kerala in Southern India.
The project is for Petronet, one of the fastest growing companies in the Indian energy sector.
Petronet has already set up and is operating the country’s first LNG import terminal, with the facility at Kochi planned to be fully operational in 2012.
The complete terminal will include two LNG storage tanks of 155,000m3 capacity, a regasification plant and a marine terminal with 320m jetty, complete with LNG unloading arms to receive ocean going LNG carriers.
LNG is natural gas that has been cooled to -260 degrees fahrenheit where it condenses into a liquid. When in liquid form, natural gas takes up to 600 times less space than in its gaseous state, which makes it feasible and economic to transport over long distances.
This is Whessoe’s first major project management consultancy award and with India one of the company’s major markets, the contract strengthens its presence in South Asia.
The Whessoe project team is based at the Darlington head office and on site in India.
