Five-star treat for tastebuds

ROCKCLIFFE Hall, Boro boss Steve Gibson’s luxury leisure and hotel complex, is drawing closer to its 2009 opening with a £1m investment in catering facilities set to deliver a five-star experience in a region that’s rocketing up the fine dining league.

The company behind the 375-acre complex at Hurworth near Darlington brought in regional catering, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment suppliers Blaydon-based Upnorth Group, to install facilities for the 90-seater orangery restaurant, spa bistro and golf club diner.

Martin Moore, head chef at the Michelin starred Seaham Hall in County Durham, has been poached to help steer Rockliffe up the regional A-list.

Nick Holmes, managing director at Rockliffe Hall Ltd, the company set up to invest a reported £50m in regenerating the Victorian country house and estate, which will open one of Europe’s longest championship golf courses in June, said there was “absolutely” a demand for connoisseur dining.

“But unlike a high street restaurant, our raison d’etre is to introduce people to the rest of the five-star facilities.

“There’s an expectation that food will be pretty sensational.”
