Joy for Woolies’ six
SIX Woolies employees, who lost their jobs when the high street giant collapsed, will be celebrating the start of a new retail career tomorrow with budget chain Home Bargains.
The Teesside staff, who were among 23,000 casualties of Woolworths’ spectacular failure last year, will join 34 more recruits at the opening of a new Home Bargains’ outlet in Thornaby.
It follows a £500,000 refit by the company, which already operates from Stockton’s Castlegate Shopping Centre.
The opening will be marked by a visit from Liverpool’s iconic Superlambananas - part of a tour of the iconic Scouse statues to Home Bargains stores around the UK.
Merseyside-based Home Bargains, which was named the UK’s fastest growing non-fresh food grocer by The Grocer magazine in March last year, has more than 170 outlets nationwide, trading on a “top brand, low price” ticket.
Its product range includes health and beauty, household, sweets and snacks, home style and drinks and alcohol.
Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: “Home Bargains is excited to be opening this new store in Thornaby bringing with it 40 top quality jobs.”
