KamiCrazy heads for million

A DIGITAL games company on Teesside is taking the iPhone market by storm.

Middlesbrough-based Fluid Pixel Studios, a specialist developer of games for mobile devices, has released KamiCrazy, a fast-paced action puzzler, for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

And the company says downloads of its game are now approaching the million mark.

KamiCrazy is the first game released for the iPhone by Fluid Pixel Studios.

The game is controlled by flicking, pushing, nudging and swinging soldiers to safety, which the player can accomplish by manoeuvring various objects such as springs, ropes, fans and other objects left in the jungle by the natives.

Each of the 40 levels require ingenuity and quick thinking to overcome puzzles, combined with the timing and accuracy needed to avoid obstacles and perils, such as water and spikes.

Stuart Varrall, founder of Fluid Pixel, said: “It’s a fun game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, the style will appeal to audiences worldwide and it’s easy to pick-up-and-play.”

Stuart has been running his mobile software company since graduating with a Masters degree from the University of Teesside two years ago.

The company is based at the University of Teesside’s £12m Phoenix Building, which houses the Institute for Digital Innovation and key research and development centres.

Since 2004 DigitalCity has worked with more than 150 new and growing businesses in the digital and technology sectors including film-makers, photographers, musicians and video games developers.
