Energy chief meets up with nuke site staff
STAFF at Hartlepool’s nuclear power station were given the opportunity to grill the top boss of French energy giant EDF as he paid a visit to the plant.
The visit by Vincent De Rivaz, chief executive of EDF Energy, came after the completion of its acquisition of British Energy - which owns the Hartlepool site.
Some of the plant’s 540 staff had the chance to ask Mr De Rivaz about the future of the combined company.
“This was an opportunity to meet the team at Hartlepool on an informal basis and to listen to their initial thoughts on the new business,” he said.
“This combination with British Energy is a significant milestone which reinforces EDF Energy’s strategy as a vertically integrated energy company with leading roles in generation, distribution and supply of energy.”
He added: “British Energy is an extraordinary company. It deals every day with highly complex and difficult challenges. Its success is the achievement of the passionate and professional team working within it.”
Mr De Rivaz was accompanied on the visit by Eva Eisenschimmel, chief officer, people, organisation and brand performance.
Station director, Paul Newman, added: “It is really encouraging that the chief executive and one of his senior executives have taken the time to come to the station to meet directly with staff. The station team really appreciated it and it set a very positive tone for the integration of the two companies.”
The visit came after the senior management of the company came together for the first time to begin the process of combining EDF Energy and British Energy.
