Move will give firm bigger bite of market

Roll Sandwich Company

A FAMILY-OWNED sandwich maker, established less than two years ago, is set for a major expansion after moving into new £675,000 head-quarters.

On a Roll Sandwich Company, owned by husband and wife team James and Helen Stoddart, has moved to Riverside Park Industrial Estate, Middlesbrough, having rapidly outgrown its original base in the town.

Since being launched in 2006, the business has grown significantly. It now employs 17 people and produces more than 16,000 sandwiches a week for clients across the North East including hospitals, universities and other public sector bodies.

The move to new premises gives On a Roll the capacity to raise its production capacity to 22,000 sandwiches a week, enabling it to undertake larger orders.

The increased capacity is expected to boost the company’s turnover to more than £2m. Director James Stoddart said: “We had reached maximum capacity at our old premises and the lack of room had become a real problem.

“To continue with our growth plans it was essential to find larger premises and we are delighted with our new location as it means we can significantly increase our production capacity.”

Funding for the property purchase and refurbishment was provided by RBS in York, together with support from both RBS Invoice Finance and Lombard.

Relationship manager at RBS Commercial Banking Jeremy Rebbeck said: “On a Roll Sandwich Company is a real success story and is holding its own in a very competitive marketplace.

“The new premises and increased production capacity will allow them to continue with their ambitious plans for growth,” he said.
