BUSINESSES from across the North East have teed off to help to support an enterprise charity aiming to create the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Durham Business Club staged the event at Beamish Park Golf Club, near Stanley, to raise money for charity Young Enterprise North East’s (YENE) One Day campaign.
The Durham Cup Golf Day, which involved teams of four competing in an 18-hole tournament for the Durham Cup trophy and a variety of other prizes, raised £750 for YENE.
YENE’s One Day campaign asks employers “what could you give up in one day?” to boost enterprise education in the North East. There are 10 pledges to pick from, such as giving up one day’s profit, employees’ time to volunteer or like Durham Business Club, one day to organise and host an event to promote YENE to clients.
YENE chief executive Catherine Marchant said: “We are extremely grateful to Durham Business Club for being the first business to tick the host-an-event pledge and organise this event in support of the One Day campaign. We rely on businesses like this to support the running our programmes. So far the One Day campaign has been a success, however we need businesses to carry on signing up to allow us to continue running a programme that offers young people valid enterprise education.”
Durham Business Club’s development director Christine Yule said: “The event offered organisations the opportunity to network with corporate associates in a relaxed social environment.
“We welcomed representatives from all types of businesses and everyone had a fantastic day. We have always been supportive of YENE and we are urging other businesses to get involved and donate one day to the campaign.”
The One Day campaign is working to sign up one company every working day for 18 months and is looking for businesses to help it meet its target.
