THE Journal today launches an online survey to gauge your thoughts on next week's budget.
The precarious state of the world economy ensures this budget is the most eagerly awaited in years.
So we want to know what you want from Chancellor Alistair Darling and how you think he can make the North East – and the UK – a better place.
Go to www.journallive.co.uk/budget or www.nebusiness.co.uk to fill in our quick survey.
It looks at whether you feel last year’s VAT cut was a success and whether you feel the Government is to blame for the current economic crisis.
Should tax breaks be given to pensioners? Should more help be given to the North East car industry?
Or has the financial meltdown changed the way you will vote at the next election? Brian Aitken, Journal editor, said: "We value our readers highly and would like to test the water of public opinion in the North East.
"This is the most significant budget for years and we hope the Chancellor will listen to the feelings of the people.
"We’ve put in a broad range of questions and want to hear the views of ordinary people as well as those of political parties and business experts who will be dominating airwaves over the next week.
"This is a key moment in this Government’s history – we want to see if Gordon Brown passes your test."
On the day itself, www.journallive.co.uk and www.nebusiness.co.uk will team up to bring you comprehensive coverage of the event.
There will be a ‘live blog’ bringing the Chancellor’s speech as it happens with added commentary by in-house and invited experts. We’ll also send out a special budget email – an all you need to know guide to the major points of the day. There will also be video reaction. Go to www.journallive.co.uk and www.nebusiness.co.uk for updates.
In print on Thursday, we will publish the region’s biggest and best guide to the budget and what it means to you.
