Fancy start to fresh idea

HANNAH Burns struggles to recall that lightbulb moment which sparked the creation of her new business.

Whenever it was, this young Redcar woman is determined that her children’s fancy dress and themed party planning business will be a major hit with fun-loving youngsters across Tees Valley.

Established by the 19-year-old with her partner Ryan Gale, A Kidz Dream aims to “bring something new and fresh” to Middlesbrough and take the stress out of organising that special celebration.

The business will sell funky themed costumes, book party venues, organise the catering and even dream up fun games such as treasure hunts for pirate-themed events.

Hannah had no qualms about starting a business at such a young age, claiming that “age and inexperience is no barrier to success”.

She added: “Other young entrepreneurs in the same boat should just go for it. They’ve absolutely nothing to lose.”

Recently she struck a deal with a supplier of fancy dress costumes, Essex-based Jolly Wodgers, and is planning to organise events and parties from as little as £10 per head. Although 80% of start-ups go out of business in the first three years, failure is as far away from Hannah’s mind as Australia.

“If we fail, it won’t be for the want of trying,” she says. “I intend to use my sales and admin experience to generate new business.”
