THE head of one of the UK’s biggest publishing companies and its subsidiaries in a number of overseas countries has won a major business award.
Gail Rebuck, chief executive of the Random House Group, which publishes some of the world’s best-known authors, including Ian McEwan and Ruth Rendell, was named Veuve Clicquot Businesswoman of the Year.
She was described as a “passionate advocate” of promoting literacy in children and adults and chairs the “quick reads” adult literacy initiative.
After receiving her award in London, she said: “When I consider the remarkable achievements of the former winners and my fellow nominees, it is a real privilege and an honour to win this award.
“I am delighted to follow in the footsteps of such an esteemed list of highly talented business people who are an inspiration to women everywhere.”
Previous winners include Chey Garland, who runs Middlesbrough-based call centre company CJ Garlands, which employs more than 3,000 staff across the North East. Ms Garland won the title in 2005.
