Summit for ethnic groups

A BUSINESS summit is to look at ways of boosting job and enterprise opportunities among minority and ethnic communities in the North East.

The event has been organised by Becon, the North East network for black, minority and ethnic (BME) community groups, and will host sessions by Northern TUC and business enterprise organisation SES.

The morning session led by Becon, will primarily consist of discussions on regional policy on BME employment and business, with presentations from regional speakers looking at disparities in employment, support needs and how the sector can address the issues.

The afternoon sessions from 12.30pm are open to the public and will be led by the Northern TUC and SES. The first session hosted by the Northern TUC will cover helping BME individuals into employment and what the TUC can do to help.

The SES workshops will investigate what it takes to be enterprising and cover what help and support is available to help people become self-employed. One-to-one interviews with a business advisor will be available.

The event is set to take place at Sunderland Bangladeshi Community Centre in Tatham Street, on Thursday, May 7 from 10am-3pm.
