More jobs in regeneration pipeline

REGENERATION bosses in the Tees Valley today said almost 800 jobs had been created or safeguarded in the region so far this year on the back of inward investment.

Tees Valley Regeneration added ten investment projects had so far been announced this year, or were in the pipeline for the region in the coming months. Last year more than 800 jobs were created and £30m of capital expenditure secured in the region.

The comments come after John Irwin, of Middlesbrough-based storeys:ssp, last week said the region’s key regeneration sites were grinding to a standstill.

Mr Irwin said urgent action was needed to avoid stagnation and re-establish momentum.

TVR is leading development at Middlehaven, Northshore in Stockton, Victoria Harbour in Hartlepool, Central Park project in Darlington and development at Durham Tees Valley Airport.

The £15m Infinity bridge at Stockton - which links Northshore with Thornaby’s Teesdale estate - will be officially opened on Thursday.

TVR added projects such as the Infinity bridge and the construction of Middlesbrough College at Middlehaven had created thousands of construction posts.

Investment in the Tees Valley during 2008 included the decision by international oil and gas drilling rig design and engineering company RDS to open an office at Wynyard Business Park near Stockton and The Wolviston Group which relocated to new offices at Falcon Court, Preston Farm, with help from the business development team at TVR.

Last summer Luxembourg technology firm Paul Wurth Group also announced plans to create around 80 jobs with the opening of a base on Bowesfield Lane in Stockton.
