A DARLINGTON marine trenching and installation firm has just landed its first contract in the offshore wind farm sector and now plans to secure more work in line with the Government’s 2020 initiative.
CTC Marine Projects has been awarded a contract by E.ON Climate and Renewable UK to lay, install and bury 17 subsea power cable arrays, which will link wind turbine foundations at the Robin Rigg offshore wind farm in the Solway Firth.
The contract is another boost for the region’s thriving offshore economy and secures more work for the company’s 165 staff in the North East, with 25 workers based at its offshore base at Middlesbrough.
Although it said that it was not planning to add any new jobs at present, it did say that expansion at its Darlington site was a possibility in the future and hopes to land similar contracts as the Government works to reach its goal of saving businesses as much as £1bn through carbon reduction by 2020.
The firm, part of US Trico Marine Group after it was bought out last year, primarily works in the oil and gas industry and works as an installation and trenching contractor covering the North Sea, Asia Pacific, North Africa, Australasia and the Mediterranean – with offices in Singapore, Australia and Scotland. CTC managing director Daryl Lynch said: "Without the talented team that makes up our organisation, it would be impossible to deliver strong performance, which gives us an edge over our competition.
"This contract shows CTC’s ability to apply our extensive subsea experience in the oil and gas industry to the offshore wind farm market and highlights the breadth of services and technology that CTC has to offer."
