National mechanical specialist to create 30 jobs in North

A NATIONAL mechanical and electrical specialist is expanding its operations in the North East by creating more than 30 jobs and investing in its site in Team Valley, Gateshead.

Warwickshire-based EIC is looking to add six administrative staff to its small office in Gateshead, where it currently only has two members of staff and expects to be employing a further 30 engineers as it generates contracts in the region over the coming months.

The firm, which also has offices in Manchester, Leeds and Edinburgh, Cornwall and London, and has a group turnover of £82m, believes it will be able to grow the team fast enough to move into a bigger site in the North East by the end of the year.

The company, which was set up in 1979, specialises in electrical installation in the food retail sector, counting Tesco and Asda among its client base, with its Gateshead team looking to expand its reach into the education, health, leisure and construction markets, as well as developing a range of building and facilities maintenance services.

Ian Lyall, joint managing director of EIC, said: "This is an exciting time for the North East which is home to a thriving business community and has drawn significant national and international investment in recent years.

"Expanding our Gateshead office presents the perfect opportunity for us to build on our existing relationships, develop further and contribute to the success of the area."
