SCORES of workers from firms across the region are taking part in volunteering activities today.
Sixteen North-east companies are participating in Business in the Community’s Give & Gain Day, giving up time and skills to work with local community groups and schools to make a positive difference.
The national event comes during National Volunteers Week which aims to raising the profile of the millions of volunteers who regularly contribute to society, while inspiring others to get involved too.
Fabrick Housing Group and Mouchel, Middlesbrough Council’s private sector strategic partner, are among local companies taking part in the Give & Gain Day and will be working on a learning garden at Westlands School in Thornaby.
“It is great to see these businesses investing in their communities through volunteering at a time when it has never been more important,” said Karen Wilkinson-Bell, Business in the Community’s regional director. “Give & Gain Day is about getting as many people out there to make a difference during work time.”
The Evening Gazette is championing the voluntary sector throughout our 2009 with its Year Of The Volunteer initiative. Part of the Tees Pride campaign, it aims to highlight the great work under way in the sector, throw the spotlight on local charity champs and encourage more people to put up their hand and pledge to help out.
