Winners at annual accountancy awards

RECORD entries flooded into the judges for this year’s annual accountancy awards which saw KPMG’s Newcastle office come away with two of the top awards.

Wendy Gibson hosted the black-tie dinner at the Gosforth Marriot Hotel, which were organised by Nigel Wright Recruitment and supporting sponsor +Catalyst.

The winners were:

New Accountant of the Year - James Dale, Anderson Barrowcliff LLP

Accounting Technician of the Year - Joe Pearson, Procter & Gamble

Accountant of the Year - Paul Mankin, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP

Tax Advisor of the Year - Stephen Hall, Deloitte

Accounting & Finance Employer of the Year - Procter & Gamble

Branch of the Year - KPMG

Independent Firm of the Year - Harlands

Public Sector Finance Team of the Year - Four Housing Group

Business Finance Team of the Year - Procter & Gamble

Corporate Finance Deal of the Year - KPMG

Finance Director of the Year - Bimal Shah, Nomad Digital

Outstanding Achievement of the Year - John Wall, former PricewaterhouseCoopers corporate finance partner

Mick Thompson office senior partner at KPMG in Newcastle said: “We are delighted with our successes, particularly as we won the corporate finance category last year as well.”

Emma Fagan of Benchmark Communications who organised the Awards said: 'Last year was such a good evening we really wanted to ensure this year upheld it's reputation as being the best accountancy awards dinner in the North and I think we have.

Mark Simpson, director of Nigel Wright's North East business said that it was reassuring that the region’s finance community got behind the event this year and in doing so proved that despite difficult market conditions individuals and teams in the region were still able to produce great results.
