Speculative commercial development on banks of Tyne

A SPECULATIVE commercial development on the banks of the River Tyne will be officially launched tomorrow by the head of regional development agency One North East.

Gateway West at Newburn Riverside, has seen Caddick Developments and CB Richard Ellis Investors construct five buildings ranging in size from 10,000sq ft to 50,000sq ft.

The development, to be officially launched by One North East’s chairman, Margaret Fay, is being viewed as a significant milestone for regional development given the tough market conditions, it also releases a significant amount of premium stock for office and industrial/warehousing in a sought-after location adjacent to the A1 and north of the Tyne.

Myles Hartley, director of Caddick Developments, which constructed the scheme is delighted with the completed units, He said: “The west of Newcastle is an ideal location for industrial units.

“Easy, direct access to the A1, a well-known address and units which exceed the expectations of the most demanding companies give Gateway West the edge in the region.”

Newburn Riverside is an established, popular business park, with a deli/café, crèche and a regular bus service to various destinations, including Newcastle city centre. A £15m four-star hotel is to be constructed at the entrance.

Key occupiers include One North East, Defra, North East Ambulance Trust, Stannah Stairlifts, MacFarlane Packaging and Northumberland and Tyne and Wear Strategic Health Authority.
