Treble top for CableCom

A FAST-GROWING Tees Valley training provider continues to expand across the UK, boosted by a £1.2m investment in new premises.

CableCom Training is building a new training centre on Stockton’s Preston Farm Industrial Estate that is three times the size of its current Thornaby office.

The development will lead to the creation of around six new jobs.

The current eight-strong core team, backed by a bank of up to 40 skilled trainers and assessors, has already been strengthened by the addition of two administration posts and a Skills 4 Life specialist.

The company, just re-assessed successfully for the third time by Investors in People (IIP), also has premises on the Teesport Commerce Park at South Bank.

Started by Clive Donnison, Roy Fraser and Sean Ratchford in 2000, CableCom provides training for clients in a wide range of sectors including telecommunications, waste management, security, teaching, health and safety, and transportation - including the fast-growing taxi market.

CableCom has also developed a safety passport scheme for the niche ports and shipping sector and works in partnership with Gateshead, Stockton Riverside and Cambridge Colleges.

Training courses for the unemployed and ex-offenders, supported by Government funding, are run twice weekly.

The latest expansion comes after the company attracted the attention of the MAP Group UK, one of the country’s leading telecommunications consortiums which has invested in CableCom.

The company is now set to deliver all training for the group, including all Virgin Media training.

“We are bucking the trend in the current recession and continuing to grow and diversify into new areas,” said training manager Tony Horridge. “It is a highly competitive market and we need to stay up with the leaders and maintain our excellent success rates in providing nationally accredited vocational training.

“The people we employ are our most important and valuable asset. We have a great team here who work very hard and are playing a major part in our expansion, and they need to feel that they can aim high and grow their career at the same time.”

Les Peacock, the company’s adviser and assessor from Investors in People North East, said: “CableCom deserves congratulations for using a range of standards and support available to them and continuing to compete so successfully and create jobs in these difficult times. IIP has been able to help them with their drive for continuous improvement.”
