Wolviston in the saddle for Olympics

EXPANSION is already paying off for the Wolviston Group, which is based in Stockton, after securing two major new contracts.

Last month the firm completed the acquisition of two companies - Manning Recruitment and TJ Hazel Engineering Consultants.

The takeover of TJ represented Wolviston’s first foray outside its core recruitment and training activities.

The team, which is also based in Stockton, has now secured work worth “several million pounds” on a project for the 2012 Olympics and a new community stadium in Brighton.

TJ has won the contract for the engineering design for the steel roof structure of the velodrome being built for 2012.

Construction on the foundations has already started at the facility which is due to be completed by January 2011.

When finished, it will be a 6,000 seat venue for cycle racing.

Alongside the velodrome there will also be a BMX facility which will have 6,000 temporary seats during the Games.

Robin Davison, managing director of the Wolviston Group, said: “We will be designing the roof and supporting steelwork for this project - and our part in this scheme is due to be completed by the end of the year.”

TJ is also providing engineering and project management services to the Community Stadium project in Brighton.

The 26,000 seater venue will be home to Brighton and Hove Albion football club and will also provide facilities including a science/sports medical centre and university lecture space.

Also based in Stockton, TJ has previously been involved in the design of football stadia at Arsenal and Brighton.

Wolviston’s second acquisition, Manning Recruitment Services, has also secured new contracts.

The firm, which specialises in engineering and administration, will give Wolviston access to public sector contracts.

It has secured a contract to provide temporary staff to Stockton and Darlington Council.

The Hartlepool-based consultancy firm Horwath Clark Whitehill helped complete the acquisitions of the two companies last month for undisclosed fees.
