Wilton workers in third day of strikes

HUNDREDS of Wilton construction workers began a third day of wildcat strike action today.

The entire site working on the Ensus bioethanol plant downed tools on Friday in support of sacked Lindsey Oil Refinery staff in Lincolnshire.

Today Simon Carves, the firm in charge of construction on the Ensus bioethanol plant, denied rumours the contracts of around 1,000 workers will be ended if they do not return to work.

Simon Carves vice president of projects, Kevin O’Donnell, said: “The rumours about termination of contracts are not true. We are working with unions and site workers to get the situation resolved.”

Teesside workers joined thousands more around the country in unofficial strike action, after 650 workers at the Lincolnshire refinery were dismissed last week. Workers are planning a mass protest tomorrow morning at Wilton.

One Teesside worker said: “We are staying out until this is sorted. This dispute isn’t to do with Wilton, it’s to do with the Total site, we have come out in support of our colleagues.”
