TNEI, which employs 70 people and has seen turnover rise by over a third from £5m to £7m in the last year, has recruited four low-carbon transport specialists staff to work for FTS and intends to recruit a further six staff in the coming months.
Margaret Fay, chairman of One North East, said: “The North East has plans that are already well advanced to spearhead the development of electric vehicles.
“FTS has a major role to play in these plans, which will influence the way electric vehicles are used not just in the North East but nationally and internationally.”
The development of electric vehicles is key to ensuring the region leads the way in developing the technologies of the future, which are being highlighted in the Great North Revolution, which is being led by the CBI.
Sarah Green, regional director CBI North East said: “FTS is one of the first of many new businesses that we hope will take advantage of the opportunities created by the Great North Revolution.”
