Stay on side of angels

BUSINESSES are being encouraged to attend an event later this year which will help them navigate the potential minefield of staff relations.

The Journal and Evening Gazette have teamed up with Newcastle consultancy Weightman Associates and law firm Dickinson Dees to stage a mock employment tribunal on November 4.

The event, at Ramside Hall in Durham, will let delegates find out how a tribunal works and give them a chance to question lawyers.

Tony Weightman of Weightman Associates, a Gosforth management development company which works to promote positive employment relations, said a little common sense could often prevent the need for tribunals.

“Often the question to be asked is: How could the employer be so naive as to allow the situation to happen in the first place?

“Cases involving large sums of money are usually won by employees because the employer fails to act correctly. …

“At this year's mock employment tribunal we will demonstrate how to ensure you stay on the side of the angels.”

The event costs £175 plus VAT. To book, email jennifer.cook@ncjmedia.co.uk , tel: (0191) 204-3310 or see www.nebusiness.co.uk/tribunal.
