Tech firm Onyx Group continues to expand

FAST-GROWING technology firm Onyx Group has stepped up its presence in Scotland by opening its second facility north of the border in three months.

The Middlesbrough-headquartered company has opened a data centre in Edinburgh, just half a mile from the workplace recovery centre it opened in April.

The new development adds to Onyx’s two similar sites in Glasgow and comes on the back of its acquisition last year of Scottish firms Campbell Lee and Dundas IT.

CEO Neil Stephenson said: “This is a significant investment for the Onyx Group which will build on our existing data centre in Glasgow and workplace recovery centres in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

“The new datacentre is a standalone, purpose-built facility and will link to our leading data centre in Glasgow, giving our clients the opportunity to store their data in two facilities in order to ensure full resilience.”

The Group has drawn on a grant from Scottish Enterprise to open the facility and is looking to recruit engineers to work in the new centre.

Onyx has quadrupled its turnover from £3m to £12m over the past two years through organic growth and a series of strategic acquisitions.

In addition to data centres and workplace recovery, the group provides managed services to more than 3,000 UK customers .
