On road to US success

A TEES Valley software engineering company is riding the recession with growth and a move into the USA market.

Data Images & Solutions (DIS) started in 1992 and has become a key player in software development. It has also developed and marketed a new product called dial-a-ride-online.com

The web-based transport management and scheduling system has proved a winner with passenger transport organisations and local authorities across the UK and the USA - with Stockton Council the first to take it up.

The company recently secured an investment of £100,000 from UK Steel Enterprise, the Corus subsidiary that supports businesses in steel areas, enabling it to take on two new software developers and an additional sales executive to support an expansion into the US market.

“We spent six weeks in the USA at the end of 2008 on a major sales push, giving demonstrations to transport organisations and talking to senior members of the Federal government,” said Tony Gatehouse, sales and operations director.

“It is a very competitive market but we are confident that the simplicity of our system will win us substantial business there. We have been told that there isn’t anything in the USA to compare with dial-a-ride-online.com and we now have eight major clients there with enquiries coming in from another six states.”
