AN engineering business is creating new jobs after moving into commercial premises following several new contract wins.

A&M Wyness maintains and services tail lifts, shutter doors and passenger lifts for the road haulage industry as well as ambulance and wheelchair access vehicles.

With the support of Sunderland City Council A&M Wyness has moved into its first commercial premises at the Pattinson North Industrial Estate in Washington. The company, which employs seven people, is now looking to take on further staff as demand for the business grows.

Director, Michelle Wyness, said: “Due to the nature of our business we generally visit our customers and carry out any service or repair work at their premises so we initially worked from a home office to manage the business.

“As our customer base grew we felt it was time to open a workshop to give customers the option of dropping in with their vehicles. Sunderland City Council were fantastic in helping us source suitable premises and gave us a great deal of support in the move.”

Michelle, 38, launched A&M Wyness with husband Alan, 46, who has been in the transport industry for more than 15 years. The pair, from Jarrow realised there was a gap in the market for a fair-priced quality service after witnessing first-hand the high charges and slow service of some of the other companies in the field.

Councillor Bryan Charlton, prosperous city portfolio holder at Sunderland City Council, said: “Michelle and Alan are running a very successful business and we hope that the new site enables them to grow and develop in the city.”
