ENTERPRISE Inns today said it had fewer empty pubs amid signs of improved trading conditions for the struggling sector. Enterprise said just 90 pubs out of its estate of more than 7,000 pubs were currently closed - compared with more than 100 in July - with lower demand for financial support from licensees. The company has spent more than £15m on support such as rent concessions and discounts so far, but said improving food sales, steadier beer markets and lower costs had eased the burden on licensees. The company sold 365 of its under-performing pubs in the year to September 30 and expects to continue disposals in the year ahead. Read
