NBS banks on Kingdom for success

Newcastle Building Society

NEWCASTLE Building Society (NBS) has added an unusual client to its portfolio after being appointed by a bank that provides finance for many of the UK's church-building projects.

It will now work on behalf of Nottinghamshire-based Kingdom Bank, which is an independent Christian bank with a 50-year heritage of providing a range of financial services to individuals, churches, charities, associations and Trusts.

The contract will see NBS provide a range of back-office functions for the bank, including cashiering, investments and customer account management.

Ian Kilmartin, third party services executive at Newcastle Building Society, said: “Kingdom Bank is a well-regarded organisation with very specific ways of operating, with which we have been able to dovetail successfully.”

The building society has been the subject of much rumour over the last week, with weekend reports suggesting that it was set to be the subject of a takeover bid from the National Australia Bank.

The firm has strongly denied the rumours.
