Newcastle law firm Mincoff reverses merger
MINCOFF Jacksons yesterday confirmed that it would reverse a merger that made it into one of the region's biggest commercial law firms just 10 months ago.
Newcastle-based Mincoff joined with Stockton-based Jacksons last October to form a firm with 21 partners and 160 staff called Mincoff Jacksons in what they described as an “ideal marriage of similar firms with a similar general ethos.”
But today, the firm will return to operating as Mincoffs and Jacksons with all staff working from their original offices.
Mincoffs, founded in 1948, will be headed by senior partner, Howard Gold and Jacksons, founded more than 130 years ago, will be headed by senior partner Kevin Fletcher.
Mincoff Jacksons managing partner Nigel Kidwell said: “The Tees Valley and Newcastle offices of Mincoff Jacksons have been affected by the economic downturn in different and unforeseen ways, changing the aspirations of each party over the course of the last year.
“Both sets of partners agree that it is in the best interests of both parties, their staff and their clients, to move forward as separate businesses with their respective high reputations built up over many decades.”
News of the demerger broke earlier this week but the firm did not issue a formal statement until yesterday.
