Eton on the fast track
A DARLINGTON-BASED company that specialises in the detection and safe management of potentially lethal asbestos from buildings is expanding.
Eton Environmental Services has moved to new premises in the town’s Grange Road on the back of rapid growth.
Established in 2004 by husband and wife team Christian and Joanna Shaefer, the company now employs 13 and was previously based at Lingfield Point.
Eton Environmental Services provides asbestos consultancy services to a wide range of managing agents, industrial and retail clients, local authorities and government departments for both commercial and domestic properties.
As well as detecting whether asbestos is present, the firm also has an asbestos testing laboratory in its Grange Road offices and can create management plans and organise any necessary remedial work. The Health and Safety Executive only advocates removal of asbestos if it is absolutely necessary and, in this case, the company is able to advise clients on the safest way to remove it.
Eton also provides fire risk assessments, Energy Performance Certificates, air testing, soil analysis and asbestos awareness training.
Harvey Nichols and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are among its list of clients.
Christian and Joanna used to live in Eaglescliffe but have now moved to Windsor where they run the company’s southern operations - which employ a further 12 people. Joanna’s father, John, manages the northern office.
Christian, pictured, said: “We are a company with our roots in the North-east and although we had outgrown our offices in Darlington, we were very keen to remain in the town. We are delighted with our new premises in Grange Road. The office is much bigger and in a great location, which allows us to be able to respond quickly when our services are needed across the region.”
