Town hall in FSB backing

DARLINGTON Council has become the second council in the North-east to sign up to the Federation of Small Businesses’ Small Business Engagement Accord.

The 14-point voluntary code of practice includes the appointment of ‘business engagement champions’ who will make sure business people’s views are considered at every stage of any consultation process. It also calls for more straightforward consultation documents and more innovative ways of communicating with businesses, including text messaging.

Stuart Thompson, FSB Durham and Darlington branch chairman, said: “This is a clear indication that the authority recognises the importance of small businesses in their future.”

Hartlepool Council became the first authority in the North-east to sign the accord in August.
