Newcastle based Deloitte wins £2.6m Audit contract

DELOITTE'S Newcastle public sector team has secured its biggest contract to date. The £2.6m contract will see the department carry out audit work on behalf of the National Audit Office for two key Government departments.

Involving both the Department of Health and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the contract was awarded by the National Audit Office after partner Paul Thomson and his team pitched for it against a large number of competitors. KPMG had previously held the contract over a four year period.

Mr Thomson joined Deloitte in April last year from PwC as part of an expansion by the audit and business advisory firm of its public sector practice across the North of England. The North East practice has doubled in size over the last two years.

He said: “This is a very significant win for us and something of a major coup. We will have a team of up to 15 people working on the external audit of both Departments with the work commencing in October.

“We are now up to over 90 wins across the region and there is more work in the pipeline across all spheres of the public sector. We see this as a key area and are looking to continue to deliver rapid year on year growth .”
