DURHAM Business School has been ranked in the top 10 business schools in the country and Newcastle University Business School in the top 20.
Both rose up the respected list of the best 100 MBA programmes in the world produced by the Economist. The list was topped by the IESE in Spain and the best MBA in the UK was London Business School, according to 2009 ‘Which MBA?’ report.
Durham Business School rose to eighth place in the UK, rising seven places from 15th position last year, and 53rd in the world while Newcastle was 17th in the UK and 86th in the world.
The ranking considers criteria including post-MBA career prospects, the quality of opportunities for personal development and educational experience, and graduates’ increased salary and networking potential.
In the UK Research Assessment Exercise 2008, 95 per cent of research output from the business school was judged to be of international quality and above, putting Durham in 19th place out of a total of 90 schools within the business and management sector.
Prof Robert Dixon, Dean of the Business School, said: "Durham Business School is committed to offering a progressive, dynamic approach.
"This ranking is an acknowledgement of the ongoing improvements we make to ensure our programmes are exceptional, academically excellent, supportive for personal development, and practically relevant."
Meanwhile Teesside University has been named University of the Year by the Times Higher Education magazine. The award was presented to Professor Graham Henderson, Vice-Chancellor of Teesside University, in London.
The university also picked up the Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative of the Year award in respect of Teesside University Business School's Foundation Degree in Leadership and Management developed with the North East Chamber of Commerce.
