OIL, gas and energy sector organisation NOF Energy has helped its members secure £10m in new business this year.

Generated following NOF Energy-organised visits to markets around the world, a large proportion of the new business has been won by members from the North-east.

The news follows recent figures from UK Trade and Investment for the North-east, which revealed the oil and gas sector generated export income of £35m in 2008.

Business development organisation NOF Energy offers international business support among its key services and has been proving the importance of international trade visits. In recent years, it has led more than 40 visits to countries such as Libya, USA, South Korea and Norway to help secure new business for members.

Middlesbrough-based TTE Technical Training Group’s NOF-organised visit to Libya helped the delivery of an existing major contract with Shell. Market intelligence also gathered during the visit equipped TTE with the knowledge to win new business from existing clients and will strengthen its position to bid for, and win, future business.

And a trade visit by Mech-Tool, in Darlington, helped towards securing work on the Valhall redevelopment project for BP Norway.

Next month NOF will visit the Pernambuco region in Brazil. Newly appointed in-country consultants will work with member companies to help break into the lucrative Brazilian export market.

Joanne Leng, director business development at NOF Energy, said: “These figures demonstrate the real benefits of trading internationally and looking outside of the UK. Our members have gained huge benefits from our trade visits as they give them access to key players and gain important intelligence about global projects and specific business opportunities.”
